We have all found our ways that work best when it comes to WHELPING once we know our puppies are coming..
I start taking their temp 5 days or so before their first due date.
I use a small plastic childs swimming pool..
they cost about $3.00 and wash up GREAT !
I use to use 1/2 of a large crate..but was always worried about a puppy getting layed on, being so small mom could hardly turn around.
I also use to use a heat matt...
Now I use a space heater, I place a X-pen around the pool.
I layer, layers and layers of news paper on the floor of the pool and just roll up and throw any waste as puppies are born..
When mom is done whelping I take a twin flat sheet and safty pin it ontop and around the sides making a incubator,
free from drafts and making mom feel cozy and den like.
I set the heater on low and lift the side sheet as needed...Whala !
Not expensive..effective..and even "KID" friendly...everything but the heater can be bleached !
